Santa Claus Village : Where Everday is Christmas!

By Kajal Shah Finland

Hello all,

I love December.

I love the cold.

I stay in a part of the country where I can only get snow in my dreams, but still, that doesn’t prevent me from dreaming about it.

I stay in a country and from a religion where we do not lack festivals and celebrations. Diwali, Holi, Navratri… the list is endless, but I also love the magic of red and white during Christmas!

Yes, I am talking about the magic of Christmas. The Magic of Santa. The magic of Christmas cakes and cookies. Glitter in kids’ eyes when we talk about Christmas gifts.

And what if I tell you that there is a place on Earth where you can witness this magic all year around? Yes! I am talking about Santa Claus Village in Finnish Lapland, which is home to Santa and his magical world.

So here is all the information you need to know before visiting this dreamy place.

History:

In 1950, Eleanor Roosevelt wanted to meet Santa. And a wooden cottage was built. Eventually, they kept it in the same place, and a village was created around the cottage. Now it is one of the most famous Christmas tourist destinations.

Where is the Santa Claus Village?

This is the home of Santa, located in Lapland, in Rovaniemi, at the Arctic Circle. You can meet Santa here all year. There is no need to wait for Christmas any longer.

What to see?

Santa lives here with his wife and his little elves. The atmosphere, the vibe, the decoration, and the lights at night are all perfect settings for Christmas postcards!

Post office:

We loved this the most. Especially selecting the post cards and sending them to our cousins. One of them already got it, and he was thrilled! A stamp and post card will cost you around 3-5€. You can plan the delivery. You get them delivered right away or just before the holidays.
Even Santa gets letters from all around the world, and he reads all of them and tries to fulfill whichever is possible.

Santa’s Office:

Here, entrance is free. You can meet the main man. If you want a photo or video, then you have to pay 40 €. He tries to talk with us in Hindi. The meeting is not at all rushed. They give you enough time to meet Santa and talk with him.

From peep hole in some doors you can also see Santa’s elves working continuously, making cakes and cookies as well as packing gifts for the kids all around the world!

Other activities:

– Reindeer farm

– Husky safari

– Mrs. Claus House:

Here you can meet Mrs Claus and her assigned elves. Kids can meet her and bake cookies and cakes with her. The program lasts for about 30 minutes.

World of Snowman:

It is open during the winter only. It was closed when we visited Finland in March.

-Snow mobile park

Arctic Circle visit:

Arctic circle passes through the center of the village, at latitude 66° 33′ 45.9″. You can take tons of pictures as per your liking, but if you want a certificate of crossing Arctic Circle, you have to pay around 5€.

Shop souvenirs:

There are many souvenir shops also, which can leave a dent in your pocket.

How to reach Santa Claus Village?
From Rovaniemi, you can reach Santa Claus village by taxi, local bus number 8 or by special Santa Express.

How much does it cost?
Entry Fees: free

However the activities are paid and some of them are very costly.

Where to stay?

We stayed in Santa Claus holiday village.

Other hotels are:

– Glass Resort

– Nova Skyland

You can also stay in Rovaniemi and visit this place as a day tour.

Restaurants:

– Three Elves Restaurant of Santa Claus Holiday Village

– Santa’s pizza and burger

– Loft cafe and snack shop

– Santamus

– Golden Bowl Dimsums ( the entry is from the backside of Loft cafe)

That’s it.

Thank you..
