Jogini Waterfall : A Short Trek in the Heart of Manali

By Kajal Shah Himachal Pradesh

Hello all,

Someone recently asked me, “Don’t you have enough waterfalls?” You are searching for a waterfall even in Manali. Honestly speaking, we can not get tired of them. And even kids love to play in the water, in the plunge pool, especially Satva! Yes, sometimes we have to hike a little bit, but that’s the fun part. After a little effort, the satisfaction we get is immense.
All waterfalls are different. I have not seen a waterfall that does not make us feel calm and does not imbibe positive feelings in us. Be it simple streams or small cascades to giant falls like Niagara, all teach us one of the most important lessons of life: to make a way, to adjust, and to create your path. It might take little or more effort, but you will get results.

This is the most popular day hike in Manali, right in the heart of Manali. If you want to awaken your trekking instinct yet don’t want to do complete hiking, then this is the short and sweet hike for you.

About the fall:

This majestic fall is located near Vasistha temple in the tranquillity of Manali. The picturesque waterfall is made up of a stream that eventually joins the river Beas. You can get lost in the beauty of pine trees, apple orchards, and majestic Rohtang peaks! Once you reach the waterfall, please spend some time admiring its beauty. You will be amazed just by staring at the silver-white curtain of the falls and the sound of the water. It will definitely take you to your happiest place.

History:

There are few stories related to the falls. According to some, “Jogini” means female spirits in the mountains. Locals believe that these spirits guide and protect them. There is a temple of Jogini mata at the base of the waterfall, and that’s why the falls are spiritually and religiously significant to locals.

Best time to visit:

Summer, autumn, and spring months. Avoid monsoons as trails will be slippery, and water can be excessive, making it dangerous.

Points to consider
Please wear proper trekking shoes.
Please don’t litter. The amount of plastic in the region is really worrisome.
Try to go early to avoid the crowd so you can feel the magic of the falls.
There are a few dhabas where you can get Maggi, coffee, etc.
It is also a good day hike for acclimatization purposes before starting your significant hikes from Manali.

Altitude: 7850 feet
Height of waterfall: 150 feet
Distance from Manali: 5 km
Trek level: Easy
Trek distance: From Vasistha temple, 3 km
Trek terrain: Forest trail

That’s it. Enjoy nature and nurture yourself!
