Jana Waterfall : A Hidden Gem in Manali

By Kajal Shah Himachal Pradesh

Hello all,

Let me surprise you all with this mid week post. As Diwali is approaching, so is our plan for vacation. We hope you all have wonderful festivals and amazing holidays and prosperous new year!

When we went for a trek this Dussehra, we went to this beautiful small waterfall.  This is a stunning waterfall located in Jana village, near Naggar. The drive from Manali to Jana is breathtaking, and you want to click pictures at every turn.

At the first site on the road, you might miss the waterfall if the flow is low. The source of the waterfall is hidden in the mountains, but the waterfall, surrounded by lush green deodar trees, pine trees, and apple trees, is undoubtedly a site to behold, and the cherry on the cake is a wooden bridge. It indeed adds an enigmatic aura to the place. There is a small plunge pool where you can have a bath or take a dip.

There are two falls, and both have wooden bridges. The first one has a gazebo-like structure, and you can have a picnic there. Some local Dhabas serve Maggi and traditional local Himachali food. Don’t get spoiled by Maggi. I know, I know Pahado wali Maggi ki vibe different hai. But keep that for some other time; rather indulge yourself at ManiRam Dhaba because they have mouthwatering traditional local Himachali food in the form of Siddhu, Makke di Roti, Palak subzi, Rajma Masala, and red rice. The food is organic as they grow their vegetables and grains locally. Kiddos loved Siddhu. They relished the food more than us… We even got rajma beans from them. He also sells organic honey. And it is not just about the food; the warmth in his eyes and his kind smile will definitely fill your heart.

If you continue further, the road will take you to Bijli Mahadev Temple. It is believed that the Shiva lingam is struck by lightning every 12 years, and that’s why it is called Bijli Mahadev, as lightning means bijli in Hindi. The road is 30 km from Jana waterfall to Bijli Mahadev. The drive is off-road, and you might need a 4×4 vehicle.

If you want some solace and tranquillity from the hustle and bustle of Manali town, go to this quiet village. You can definitely spend the second half of your day here at this pristine waterfall and rejuvenate your system.

Thank you
