Cafe Hopping in Pondicherry

Food and eating habits are an integral part of every culture. And we consider it as one of the most important aspects of travel. Obviously, we don’t forget our Thepla and Ganthiya in any of our journeys (what do I say? We Gujarati love them so much!). However, still, during our every travel, we try to go to regional restaurants or cafés as well as we try to eat as much as possible at our homestays and on the streets. Now, as both our kids are becoming foodies and as they love to taste and explore new cuisines, we usually look for cute little restaurants and cafés in every place we visit, along with the street foods of that region. And Shaurya usually searches for such places beforehand, and we include these places in our itinerary.
Anthe Cafe
It is a beautiful café just beside the Marquis Dupleix Statue. The ambience of the café is so serene and soulful. We ordered avocado cheese roll sushi and paprika paneer fingers along with litchi watermelon lemonade. The food was excellent in presentation and taste.

Baker Street
This is a cute, small café and very well known just in front of the sea, with a perfect location and perfect European café vibe! Shaurya is mad about Macrons, and he got perfect ones here. We also tried muffins, and they were terrific. The best was the Coco-Choco muffin. The seating is minimal, so the best way is to grab your food and just sit on the rocky beach, enjoying the view and their amazing delicacies!

Coromandel Cafe
This is an amazing, calm café with peaceful vibes and green surroundings. The café has outdoor as well as indoor seating, and seating on the first floor. Despite all these, you might have to wait as the café is quite popular. We ordered burgers and fries, ginger lemon tea, apple crumble and Nutella cake. The food was excellent, but the service was a little bit slow.

Le Cafe
The location of this cafe is unbeatable. It is the only café so close to the sea in white town. And the best part is that it is open 24 hours. And it is one of the busiest cafés in white town. The pizza is a must. It references the memories of old-style pizza, which we used to have before authentic pizza came to India. We also have augratin, which was good. You can totally skip moktails and drinks.

Zuka Cafe
This is a kiosk-style small café on the main beach road, and if you talk about delicious gelato, you will get it here. Their Australian Salted Caramel is amazing gelato. The seafront location of the café is the cherry on the cake.

Bouche Sucree
This is a small, fantastic café with excellent service and delicious bakery items. The staff is very courteous and helpful.

Chaat Ka Chaska
This is a small, vibrant café with amazing Bollywood-style décor. We ordered a few chaats and vada paav. The best was palak patta chaat. The rest were okay.

There are a few other excellent cafés and restaurants that we were unable to visit, I mean, how much can we eat in a day, but are surely on our bucket list for the next visit. And one of the most amazing café ‘café Des arts’ was closed as they are moving to a new place, it seems.
