Barkhadi waterfall : Let’s welcome Monsoon

Hello all,
You know your son is now a teenager when he refuses to have any birthday party. When he says no to birthday cake, and all he wants from you is freshly baked homemade chocolate chip cookies and Bhindi sabzi. Yes! Today is Shaurya’s birthday and his wish was to go on a simple lazy trek in the morning, a visit to Decathlon with Sheel and lastly to play in society with his friends, just like any regular day…
As the monsoon is finally sitting in this part of the country, we went to Barkhadi waterfall this morning. It was on our bucket list for two years. Last year when we went there the villagers asked us to come after a few days because the fall had not started then. Today we took a chance. Driving to the Narmada district is magical in monsoon. So even if we had been able to visit the waterfall, the drive would have been successful!
Let me tell you about the scenery of the village first. You will feel that you are at some hill station and not in Gujarat. The grey clouds kissing the mountains, gentle wind, lush green hillocks and scattered bamboo huts! The panoramic view from the village is a sight to behold and will certainly take your breath away.
This village is also the base for the Dev Hatra Hill trek. For the waterfall, you can go by vehicle up to the primary school of the Barkhadi Village. Once you park there, you have to take the short uphill trail on your right side. The trail is not marked but you can easily ask villagers as you will be going from their backyards, and through the lanes between their homes. You can also ask local boys if they are willing to accompany you.
There are fields on either side of the trail so please walk carefully as you don’t want to disturb their crops. Once you cross the houses, there is a small stream down the hill, which you have to cross twice and then you will hear the roaring sound of falls. Just walk along the stream and then you are at the base of the falls. It is not a giant fall like Naldha or Dharsimel, but still, that doesn’t lessen its charm. Local people do swim there but we don’t want to take any risk so we avoided it. If you want to swim, you can also go uphill in the upper part of the falls, there is a small lake with small cascades where you can swim.
Total trek distance (one way): appx 2 km.
Trek terrain: along the stream and through the fields
Trek level: Easy
Total distance of Barkhadi from Vadodara: 94 km, 2 hours
Points to consider:
- Please don’t litter and keep the place clean…It is one of the few treks where we saw the least plastic along the trail . Let’s just keep it that way.
- Your trail is along the stream, so wear proper shoes.

So, this monsoon don’t miss the chance to this waterfall, because it is less crowded, it has a short hike and an easy trail and the scenery is to die for!

Short fall ?

You can definitely take a dip.. but we suggest don’t go too near to fall. Or just ask villagers. They know the place better.
