Bushkill falls : The Niagara of Pennsylvania

By Kajal Shah Unites States of America

Hello all,

When I say, I miss writing here, what I mean is I miss roaming on Sundays…. because some Sundays are like being lazy, waking up late, and doing whatever you feel. But then suddenly, at night, you realized why did I do this? Why did I miss my Sunday morning outing? How will I be able to pass the entire week now? Do you know the solution to this…I look at all the pictures on my phone, from Triund to Tungai and from Duzkou to Dayara. And then suddenly, I realized I had not written about this stunning place.

We wanted to do some hiking on our trip to the USA. We missed the trails, and we missed the forests. But the weather was not our best buddy for all days. Still, we did whatever we could, and Oh!, what a beautiful place it was….

The Bushkill falls are also called The Niagara falls of Pensylvanennia, and it is truly a giant fall with multiple minor falls in the vicinity. They are stunning waterfalls in Pennsylvania in Poconos mountain. People frequently visit falls because there are trails for everyone, from the easiest and shortest green trail to the difficult and lengthy red one.

There are a total of four trails:

Green: it is the shortest one, takes around 15 minutes. It is the easiest, with a few stairs, and it takes you directly to the view of the main falls.

Yellow: It is an easy trail and takes up to 45 minutes with little climbing involved. this trail offers views of upper and lower canyons. It is the most crowded.

Blue: It is easy to moderate and takes up to 1 hour and 45 minutes, but you won’t complain when you see the mesmerizing Pennell falls. There are dirt trails along the way, and it takes you through the forest and is pretty peaceful.

Red: It is a moderate to difficult one and takes almost 2 hours. from here, you can get a beautiful view of Bridal falls.

The best part is all the trails are well-marked, and you can quickly go from one trail to another. Some trails overlap, and you can switch from one to another. We did a combination of the yellow and blue one. There is a small entrance fee, and you can enter the breathtaking world of Bushkill falls. There are eight waterfalls in the region, with the main Bushill fall is around 100 feet tall. The total hiking area is around 2 miles.

We were luck as we visited the falls in Autumn. So we were surrounded by all the fall colors along the blue trail. The crunching of leaves under our feet and the feeling of cold wind on our cheeks. The soothing sound of waterfalls and sieved sunlight from the trees. We enclosed all these in our little box of memories to take them back home. And they still calm us whenever we open the box; they take us back into the giggles and the songs we shared with our dear ones, those silly games and those crazy banters…those fake stories we made and those dares we gave…

There is a kids’ play area, gemstone mining, a maze, a fishing pond, miniature golf, a snack bar, and a souvenir shop. Before entering the waterfall, there is one wildlife exhibit showing the animals in the local region.

The waterfalls are the best, but what struck us the most were wooden bridges, lattice steps, and boardwalks. This is what we miss in India. The well-marked and different-level trails. there are multiple waterfalls with intricate trails, boardwalks, and bridges. Bushkill Falls was one of the best hiking experiences on our USA trip.

That’s all…

Thank you…

See you soon…
