Dabhan Village : Where the time freezes, as the sun sets.

By Kajal Shah Gujarat

Hello all,

When we were kids, we usually went on vacation with our family and friends during Diwali. One of our uncle was very particular about going to watch the sunrise. Be it any place or trip, he planned a sunrise outing every time. And sometimes, for that, we literally had to wake up at 4-4:30. Our mom, being our mom, made sure that her daughters were ready for it. But now, as we think of those times, those were a few fantastic sunrises we have witnessed!! Be it at Nainital or Nagarkot, Nepal… And we are truly grateful for all of them. Thank you Ma and Pa… and Rajukaka,  if you are reading this, thank you so much.  But there is a little regret also. Why have they not taken us to see amazing sunsets?

I love sunsets. We all love Sunsets. Those colors in the sky, just like our emotions… playing games with us…sometimes vibrant like fiery red and orange, and sometimes gloomy like shades of purple and grey…There is something magical about the sunset sky. You can see it from your home, or you can travel kilometers to watch a perfect one!! Sunset tells us to be in the moment. And to think about how the day went. To cherish past and present. Because we are certain about the next sunrise. It gives us calm before the craziness. It overwhelms us with the feeling of completeness yet inadequacy.

And this is how we went to Dhabhan, near Shivrajpur, last Sunday to watch a perfect sunset!! The village is on the other side of Dev reservoir, and in the company of a few birds, we can feast our eyes on a spectacular event. The sun kissing the glassy water of the lake with its reflection and candy-coloured sky creating a perfect backdrop!! The sun was setting so slowly that you could feel like it also didn’t want to leave this wonderful place.

Shaurya and Satva enjoyed in their way by playing football on the field. These little moments are what we crave. It’s not always about achievements. It’s about connecting with the self. And doing what you love. And sometimes, we can do that when we look back at the past retrospectively. Just like sunset, we have to see it from afar. Our past self. Struggling with self. Self-doubting, constantly nagging self. Our past can not be changed, but it has already changed us and made us who we are, and it can still change us when we try to figure out what went wrong… or what was done perfectly. It’s just a matter of time…

And moments like these make us believe in Universe. The power of time and the power of nature.

The road to Dabhan village is as per Google maps. You can take a car up to the motorable road and then walk in the fields and get up to the lake.

That’s it.
See you next week.
