Kukarda Waterfall : A Blessing in Naswadi!

Hello all,
It has been a year since we haven’t seen the Himalayas. It is the longest time since 2021 that we haven’t been to the mountains in the north. And how we miss them! Six trips in two years to the mighty Himalayas do that to your mind and soul that you feel claustrophobic in your city life. And how we miss their stillness, their calmness, their wilderness, their mindfulness, and their tenderness. And all these lead to a sense of sadness and longing with a deep void that has the power to suck all happiness. It remind me of a song from the movie Ek Main Hu Aur Ekk Tu, ‘Sab kuch wahin hai par kuch kami hai. Teri aahatein nahin hai.’ How did these words of Amitabh Bhattacharya cut our hearts like a sharp knife? But in life, we can’t get away with what we want every time, and it throws some challenges, and you can’t fight with it constantly! Our best attempt to fight is to make peace with life, to accept the situation, and to go ahead, and that is the reason we now never miss a chance of Sunday outings! Even kids are changing their plans for Sunday outings. They will be a little reluctant if we have to get up early, but once we reach the spot, they are unleashed like a cloud bursting on a parched land. It is like we are holding our breath from Sunday to Sunday! The week passes in a flash sometimes, and sometimes it takes forever for an hour to get over.
This morning, we went to Village Kukarda, near Naswadi. We were not sure, as there are not many Google reviews. But one of our friends visited the place last year, and he has some contacts in the village, so we were all set to explore a new place. It is a remote place with narrow roads and zero connectivity except for the Jio network. You have to go via Tilakwada and follow the Naswadi highway. First, you will come to village Talkhana (તણખલા) and then take a left turn from there. Once you reach the village Goyavant (ગોયાવાંટ) a right turn to village Kukarda. If you follow Google Maps for the fall, it will show you entry from the village of Budha Jaldhuni. But don’t follow that road. Once you reach the village, go ahead to the Primary school of Kukarda. There is a Banyan tree with a signboard. Take a right turn from there and ask any villager. They are extremely helpful.
Right turn from Goyavant
Then, the off-road journey will last for about two kilometres, which is along the stream. After about 2 kilometres, there will be one uphill road and a very narrow downhill road. you can park your vehicle there. You have to walk from a field and from the backyard of Mr Maheshbhai’s home, who is a generous person and has helped us get to the fall. The trail from there is approximately 1 kilometre and very easy. You have to cross the stream twice, but kids, being kids, walked up to the fall in the stream only, playing with their football.
Just park your vehicle here and take the right lane
The fall is majestic. If you want to visit a single waterfall this season, then go to this waterfall. It is mesmerizing in every way. You can take a dip; you can swim; you can sit under the fall, behind the fall, and on the fall. yes, you can literally climb a few rocks, which provide a platform to sit and embrace the essence of the fall! Sheel and kids did it, and their satisfaction has no bounds! They didn’t want to get down. They were in the water for over an hour, and still, they didn’t want to come out. They swam, they played with ball, they did meditation, and they refilled their soul with magic! Magic of mother nature. And what did I do? I sat there with a slight smile on my face. Though the smile was a little smirk, my heart overflowed with emotions. I was reviving my memories of the Himalayas. But in a way, Mother Nature was teaching me a lesson that she is in every untarnished part of the Earth if only we could find such corners in our vicinity.
When we were about to leave, the kids were busy eating their breakfast, and I was busy observing a bird drying its wings on the top of the fall. It sat there peacefully without any movement, without even flapping its wings! It was like the bird was doing yoga to gain mental peace! What more lessons do we need? A bird staying close to Mother Nature all the time still needs to come to her lap and be in direct contact with her. And we, being a so-called civilized species, can’t understand this simple equation.
Points to consider:
- Please don’t litter and keep the place clean…It is a relatively less explored place, and that’s why it is pretty clean. so please try to keep it that way only.
- Your trail is along the stream, so wear proper shoes.
Total trek distance (one way): appx 1 km.
Trek terrain: along the stream, mostly flat.
Trek level: Easy
Total distance from Vadodara: 107 km, 2 hours 35 minutes
