Naldha Campsite : Amazing waterfall in jungle

By Kajal Shah Gujarat

Hello all,

We hope you are enjoying the fantastic weather and festivities. The festivals start from July, Rathayatra, and extend up to Diwali. These festivals are the soul of our culture and tradition. Be it Ganesh festival or Muharram, Navaratri or Christmas.

Some celebrations join all of us together, irrespective of social, religious, economic, or cultural background. They play a pivotal role in building a nation. One nation, one emotion. And we all have witnessed it on this Independence  Day in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. The motive is to make us realize the importance of our flag and to connect with it from within. We feel pride when we see the Tricolor flying in front of our homes, and we embody that sentiment in our minds and hearts. We have witnessed tricolors flying high on all buildings, all homes, and even most vehicles. Our emotions are at their peak, and our energy is high. But will we be able to continue this patriotic feeling, or will it go downhill as soon as the campaign is over, and just like that, we will be our ignorant selves? We have a lot to think about and many more miles to go. We are impulsive people. Festivals and celebrations like this generate positive attitudes and emotions among with lots of social media status updates of course, but we must work hard to continue it on normal days. Are we ready for that?

These are the questions repeatedly playing in my mind when we visited Naldha Ecocampsite this weekend.

Now coming to the campsite. It is located in the Ratanmahal Sloth Bear Sanctuary, which has maximum number of sloth bears in entire state. The drive to Ratanmahal Sanctuary is terrific. No doubt the best season is during Monsoon as first is in its pure lush green form with tall trees making canopies on the roads and slight drizzle making our heart gooey. The location is there on Google maps and is relatively easy to follow. There is one private Dhaba just in front of the campsite and private parking. But we learned afterward that the camp has an ample parking spaces. You can have food options both at the Campsite or in private Dhaba. But you have to tell them beforehand (before going to the waterfall trek), so they can prepare by the time you come from the fall.

The trek to the Naldha waterfall is mesmerizing, and it is from the jungle with a very well marked trail. The trail is approximately 2.5 km long but easy, with few steps and a gradual climb. You can get Nimbupani or boiled corn on the way in peak season or on weekends.

It takes appx 1 hour to reach the fall, but it’s worth every effort. The place is popular amongst nature lovers and tour agencies. So it will be challenging to get solitude at the waterfall, but it is always about that one secluded corner, and if you can get it, it will be more than enough.

As I mentioned in the blog about trekking with kids, it won’t always be possible to keep your kids in an elevated mood during the trek. It was a day like that for us. Satva wanted to enjoy the water, and Shaurya wanted to sit and relax. Days like this can be challenging but always memorable. We want to keep them in a tiny little envelope and keep them sealed to cherish in the future. We hope that our kiddos do the same.

We have not stayed at the campsite, so we don’t know the facilities and services, but it is in a remote place and in the jungle, so you can’t expect five-star luxury at places like this. And you can always do one day picnic here.
